Which type of plastic can recycle at home

Plastic is one of the many materials that you can recycle. A lot of people don´t have knowledge so much  about it and use plastics unnecessarily. This situation causes a lot of environmental harm to the Earth.

Most plastics are not recycled. Around seven percent of plastics that are produced in the U.S. are recycled. There are many challenges and opportunities with recycling. One of the challenges is that it is hard to find a good market for recyclable plastic. Almost every piece of plastic ever made still exists on Earth, so we need to make sure that we do not overuse it in order to avoid plastic pollution and filling landfills.

The Seven Types of Plastic

#1: PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate)
#2: HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene)
#3: PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)
#4: LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene)
#5: PP (Polypropylene)
#6: PS (Polystyrene)
#7: Polycarbonate, BPA, and Other Plastics

Which Type of Plastics Can You Recycle At Home?

Plastics are a big part of our everyday life. How do we recycle it? It is essential to understand which type of plastics can recycle at home.

– Plastic water bottles, food containers, takeout containers, cling wrap
– Disposable cups and plates
– Styrofoam cups and containers: not recyclable

Recycling plastic at home is a simple and effective way of reducing the amount of plastic in landfills and oceans. The first step is to identify what type of plastics can recycle. The most common types are PET, PVC, HDPE, LDPE, PP (polypropylene), PS (polystyrene), and ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene). Next, you need to make sure you separate your recyclables by type. PET bottles can mix with other bottles types or water bottles so long as they are clean and dry. Put them all in the same bin therefore it’s easier for recycling centers to sort them out later on.

For example, PET is highly recyclable because it can turn into many products like clothing or bottles without any problems. Whereas PVC is highly complex to recycle and needs a specific process because it contains chlorine-based substances which makes them toxic in the environment if they are not recycled properly.

Don’t forget! There are many different kinds of plastics and some of them can recycle while others cannot.
